Walking Through The Spray Tan Process
Whether its your very first time, you’re newer to the spray tanning game, or maybe it’s just been a while, the process of getting a spray tan can seem intimidating and like it requires a lot of work. Luckily, we’ve been doing this for a while over here and can walk you through the process so that you will know exactly what to expect!
We’ll start off by saying, spray tans are the perfect option when you need a glow in a hurry. Last minute event commitment? Get a spray tan! No time to tan before vacation? Get a spray tan! Just feeling blah? Get a spray tan! They offer an instant confidence boost that lasts up to a week. The solution that is sprayed onto your skin is also formulated with skincare ingredients to support your overall skin health.
There are two different types of spray tans that you can receive: a handheld spray tan by a certified spray tan artist or you can step into an automated spray tan booth. Fun fact: they both leave you with an amazing tan!
Now for the spray tanning process! When you first walk into the salon, the attendant or spray tan artist will ask you what type of color you are looking to achieve: do you need a deep bronze before going on vacation or just a light glow for a winter wedding? Once your shade range is determined, they will then double check to make sure you showed up with clean skin: no makeup, deodorant, perfumes, lotions, etc. If not, it’s okay because they have exfoliating wipes to help clean the skin before your sprayed!
Then comes the best part: receiving your spray tan! If you chose the route of an automated spray tan booth, the front desk attendant will lead you to a room where the booth is. You will then be able to undress to a level of your comfort, apply a layer of the barrier cream to your hands, feet, and other areas that are prone to dryness. We also recommend putting on a hair net (make sure you keep it slightly behind your hairline so you don’t get a tan line on your forehead) and using the nose plugs to prevent any bronzer, if you choose to use one, from getting inside of your nose. It’s not cute, trust us. From here, the booth will spray you down and dry your tan and you’ll be all set to get dressed and be on your way!
Receiving a spray tan from a spray tan artist has a very similar process except, the artist will be in the room with you the entire time talking you through each step to ensure you receive the most perfect glow!
While it may sound like a lot, this whole process takes less than 10 minutes! The most important thing to remember is to not get wet or shower until your tan has had time to develop for at least 4 hours.
